Tabimina Balintawak - A Training Summary

The training progression depends on the students absorption. Each person is unique, therefore the training is really personalized. Sir Bob told me, "It is not how much time you spent in training, but how much have you absorbed from the training." Sir Bob will teach you the basic 12 strikes, then after learning it, he will throw it at random. From then on, he will INSTALL each of the movements randomly on how to defend certain attacks. During this stage, you will have to go thru what he calls the healing stage, discarding NORMAL human basic instint, controlling your adrenaline, the mindset of never underestimating your opponent, DEFENDING WITHOUT THINKING, etc. Then you will have to DEFEND against the disarms, pulling, pushing, yanking, punches, butting. Then you will learn how to disarm by sensing him. He will not say "disarm me", instead he will give you a window of opportunity to disarm him. If a certain disarm is installed, then he will be uncooperative. You have to disarm him while being uncooperative. These are some of the things you will experience in LEVEL 1, defend while under stress.

Next is LEVEL 2. How to ATTACK while under stress. First is we go back to the basic 12. This time you will be attacking, learning the proper positioning/angle of strikes which is advantageous to you. Again the key word is INSTALLING. Once installed in your nervous system, you will be able to throw the basic 12, ATTACK and DEFEND WITHOUT THINKING. Then proceed with installing attacks which you experienced during Level 1, applying disarms, punching, pushing, pulling, butting while attacking under stress. What do we mean by attacking while under stress? Because for example, Sir Bob at this point is the receiver who has a strong defense and he will urge you to try to hit him because he has to feel the rhythm, the speed of your attack. And at the same time, you don't know when he will counter attack and will force you to defend.

Next is the FIGHTERS LEVEL. Since you already developed, acquired, the necessary movements to fight. Sir Bob will teach you, how to utilize the things you know in a real fight. He will show you, how to end the fight quickly. Which of these movements are unblockable? Meaning a wrong answer to your attacks will lead to unevitable strikes or punches. So to sum it up, these are all about neutralizing your enemy the quickest way possible without underestemating your opponent.

Last is HOW TO BECOME A STIMULUS? How can you pass it on your students. This requires patience and understanding about the art. It may sound simple, but in reality it is hard. Some people are fighters, some instructors. For me it's easier to become a fighter than becoming an effective instructor. But thru this stage, Sir Bob will be able to impart the knowledge and wisdom about the art and becoming a stimulus to your students.

The stick is only the training tool to gain the necessary REACTION. After these then you proceed to bare hands, knife fighting, etc. which for me is the higher level of Tabimina Balintawak.

Thanks.
